Since in-ground pools are built into the ground, it stands up better to the elements and the weather. However, that doesn’t mean it’s bulletproof; you can expect to perform major repairs sometime during ownership, which means more money. From doing pool remodels to doing a full pool resurfacing expect major cost. Because of this, the maintenance of an in-ground pool is expensive over the life of the pool.
An above-ground pool, however, is much easier to maintain and clean. Above-ground pools are generally smaller and can be cleaned more quickly, which makes them cheaper to maintain over time. You can even use an above ground pool cleaner to ease the cleaning process.
Style & Design
Another significant advantage to the in-ground pool is that you have a wide variety of shapes and styles to choose from, whereas most above-ground pools look the same — they’re either round or oval and that’s it. Also, in regards the overall look of your backyard, the in-ground pool looks much more stylish, while many people think above-ground pools look tacky. Also, it’s worth mentioning that an in-ground pool if properly cared for will increase the resale value of your home should you decide to sell it down the road, while the above-ground pool, not so much.
Lastly, safety is worth considering because it’s believed above-ground pools are safer because there’s less of a chance that a child could accidentally fall in as opposed to an in-ground pool. Still, you must implement every safety precaution regardless of which pool you choose especially if you have children.
