In Ground or Above Ground Pool? Which Should You Choose?

A pool resurfacing company in Houston says, having a pool at home is a wonderful convenience; it’s an excellent way to have fun in the summer, burn off some calories, and just relax after a tough day at the office.

When you decide on installing a pool, there are two types from which to choose: in-ground and above-ground. And both have their respective pros and cons, which we will look at right now in this article.

In ground or Above ground

Cost

For most people, price is the deciding factor on which type of pool they install. An in-ground pool is much more expensive than the above-ground variety. You can get an above-ground pool for as little as $500 bucks, while in-ground pools generally start at $30,000 and go up from there. The cost depends on a variety of factors including how big, the materials you use, and any landscaping that needs to be done to compliment and accommodate the pool.

Putting it In

Like price, the above-ground pool and the in-ground pool couldn’t be any more different than when it comes to installation. Most above-ground pools can be put up in a day, while the in-ground pool requires weeks of digging, pouring concrete, adding decking, and landscaping to install. Also, the major advantage to the above-ground pool is that you can take it down and move it to a new location if you desire whereas you’re stuck with the in-ground pool right where it is.

Longevity & Maintenance

Since in-ground pools are built into the ground, it stands up better to the elements and the weather. However, that doesn’t mean it’s bulletproof; you can expect to perform major repairs sometime during ownership, which means more money. From doing pool remodels to doing a full pool resurfacing expect major cost. Because of this, the maintenance of an in-ground pool is expensive over the life of the pool.

An above-ground pool, however, is much easier to maintain and clean. Above-ground pools are generally smaller and can be cleaned more quickly, which makes them cheaper to maintain over time.   You can even use an above ground pool cleaner to ease the cleaning process.

Style & Design

Another significant advantage to the in-ground pool is that you have a wide variety of shapes and styles to choose from, whereas most above-ground pools look the same — they’re either round or oval and that’s it. Also, in regards the overall look of your backyard, the in-ground pool looks much more stylish, while many people think above-ground pools look tacky. Also, it’s worth mentioning that an in-ground pool if properly cared for will increase the resale value of your home should you decide to sell it down the road, while the above-ground pool, not so much.

Lastly, safety is worth considering because it’s believed above-ground pools are safer because there’s less of a chance that a child could accidentally fall in as opposed to an in-ground pool. Still, you must implement every safety precaution regardless of which pool you choose especially if you have children.
