Your Guide to Creating an Outdoor Oasis in Your Backyard

views

Thought backyards were just for plants and trees? Well, think again! It doesn’t matter whether you have a vast or small outdoor area – with a few tweaks, you can turn this space into a gorgeous, relaxing spot. Best of all, you can organize it so this project can fit a wide variety of budgets.

Now, if you haven’t attempted such an endeavor before, it can seem rather daunting. Nevertheless, this is something you will be able to manage even if you don’t have much experience with these projects. All you need to do is follow the helpful guidelines here:

Identify Your Main Goal

Before anything else, first determine what your main goal is. For instance, do you want this space to be a place where you can relax with a glass of lemonade? Or, do you want it to be a family-friendly spot that adults and children alike can enjoy? Perhaps you would like to entertain guests here, maybe even set up a dining area?

If you are fortunate to have a large backyard, then you can go with two or more of these ideas. With smaller areas, though, you will often have to whittle down your options. By determining what you want to do with your backyard, you will find it easier to create a more cohesive space.

Create a Link to the Interior Design

It is easy to think of your outdoor area as being separate from your home. However, this isn’t the case. If you do want to create a beautiful and consistent design, it is important to adopt certain elements from the inside of your home.

For instance, you can work with similar materials. If you have wooden flooring inside, you may want to create a wooden platform as well. Or, you could have furniture that is made from the same kind of wood or metal. You can even borrow from the color scheme.

This way, the outside won’t look like a completely different entity. Rather, it will reflect the interior and help the outside space feel cozier as well.

Create Distinct Zones

If you do have a bit of space to play around with, you can create various zones in your backyard. For example, you may be able to have a small “kitchen” that consists of a barbecue grill, bar, and a serving table. This could be accompanied by a compact dining area.

If you would like to keep this area for entertainment purposes, on the other hand, you can set up couches, chairs, and small tables. In case you have kids, set up a small playground or sandbox for them. You may just want the rest of the backyard to consist of a garden or greenery.

It is a good idea to create boundaries between each of these zones. One way to do this would be to have different flooring for each section. This is simple yet eye-catching. You can also use planters to create a sort of green wall. It is also possible for you to use different types of shade to outline each of these areas too.

Find Beautiful Furniture

For the longest time, outdoor furniture was rather bare-bones, bordering on ugly. These days, though, a lot has changed. You can now find pieces to rival interior furniture. Of course, you still need to know where to look to discover such gorgeous pieces. To find just what you are looking for, click here.

There are several points to consider when selecting outdoor furniture. First and foremost, it needs to be durable, particularly if you are planning on leaving it out all year long. At the same time, look for stylish pieces that resemble your interior furniture to a certain degree.  Considering all those features a quality zero gravity chair like timber ridge could be an great choice for your outdoor backyard

You may also want to take inspiration from nature as well. For instance, if the space around is rather rugged, then consider pieces that would fit well with this look. On the other hand, if it is mostly concrete, the furniture should be more modern and minimalistic as well.

Have a Focal Point

It is a good idea to create a focal point in your backyard. This way, you will know which direction to position your furniture in. Not to mention, it makes the time you spend outdoors a great deal more pleasant.

It is up to you to decide what this focal point should be. If you have a pool or a water feature, then this could be a great main element. Sculptures, beautiful trees, and other features work just as well. Fire pits or similar pieces are also great as focal points.

If you would like to keep it simple, have a particular patch of flowers that are pleasant to look at. Make sure that it is visually appealing and catches your eye the moment you step outside.

Keep in mind that you can’t just place any old feature and call it a focal point. Rather, that element should fit in well with its surroundings and the rest of the décor too.

Light It Up

As you may be aware, lighting is quite important when it comes to ambiance. Thus, you should carefully consider how to set it up. If your outdoor space is connected to the house wiring, then it is easier to have more powerful lights.

If not, you will have to find lights that have their own power source. Christmas lights and other battery-powered options work especially well. For something a little more romantic, candles are a great option. To keep things on the safe side, look for battery-operated candles that look like the wax versions. This way, you won’t have to bother about replacing them or knocking them over!

As you can see, it isn’t difficult to turn your backyard into an oasis. All you need are the right ideas, the perfect pieces, and some elbow grease. These factors will ensure that you end up with a gorgeous and functional space that you can be truly proud of.
