A lot of us don’t have kitchens the size of bedrooms and living rooms. Usually, we often only have a small square space where all our cookware and kitchen utensils are located.
In this small kitchen, most people would usually have large kitchen equipment that takes way too much space in the room, and a few of these items are not needed in cooking for just a small family.
For those who are looking for appliances that can save space in the kitchen and are suitable for cooking meals for at least 2-5 persons, here are some kitchen appliances that don’t take up much room.
Smaller Burner Range
The standard width for the four-burner range is 30 inches, but some companies have developed a way to slim the gas range a little bit to save space in the kitchen. An excellent example of the slimmer burner ranges is the Danby DER200W Electric Range, which is 20 inches in width.
Besides being slimmer, Danby’s burner ranges are electric, which means that the heat coming out of the stove is much more evenly distributed than gas ranges. Even heat distribution is perfect for roasting or baking.
However, since the burner ranges rely on electricity, you won’t be able to cook food in the ranges once the power goes out. But this is just a minor drawback since losing electricity at home is uncommon.
Portable Induction Cooktop
If you want to take the next level in saving kitchen space, then the portable induction cooktop is for you. In addition to the portable cooktop being able to be moved to different areas of the kitchen, it cooks your food in an interesting mechanic called induction.
Induction cooking is also electric, but it cooks faster and consistently since heat directly goes to the cooktop and not from other sources in the equipment, which can result in uncooked or overcooked dishes. Also, because of its smooth surface and portability, these mobile induction cookers are much easier to clean than electric burner ranges and gas stoves.
Refrigerators are probably the appliance that takes the most space out of all the appliances in the kitchen. Standard refrigerators have a width of 36 inches, but there are skinnier refrigerators in the market that are about 24 inches in width, like the Summit FFBF192SS Refrigerator. This type of refrigerator is usually called counter-depth refrigerators due to its being able to match the depth of countertops in common kitchens.
These narrower refrigerators still have the same functions as the regular ones, but they save much more space in your kitchen, allowing other appliances to be put in the extra few inches next to the refrigerators.
If you want an even smaller refrigerator, if you don’t need a lot of space to freeze ingredients or keep them cold, then you should buy a compact refrigerator like the Danby DCR032C1BDB Compact Refrigerator, which has a 3.2 cubic feet internal capacity. The COSTWAY Compact Refrigerator is another good mini fridge that also has the same interior capacity as the Danby.
Portable Slow Cooker
While the regular Crock-Pots are small, other slow cookers on the market can free more kitchen space while also being able to fit inside a kitchen cabinet.
There is the 6-quart Instant Pot slow cooker, which can provide the same purpose as the Crock-Pot as it can be used for pressure cooking, but there is also a 3-quart version of the Instant Pot that is much tinier and is perfect if you are cooking for one or two persons.
If you want another brand that has the 6-quart slow cooker, then you should choose Cuisinart and their MSC-600 Slow Cooker that is wider and has more space for food than the Instant Pot.
If you are not heating meals that are going to be eaten by at least 6 to 10 people, then you should buy a mini microwave where a dish for 1 to 3 persons can fit. Two good microwaves that can save space in your kitchen is the Toshiba EM131A5C-BS Microwave and the COMFEE EM720CPL-PMB Countertop Microwave.
But if you want a food warmer to fit inside a cabinet when not in use, there is the Crock-Pot 20-Ounce Lunch Crock Food Warmer, which can be used not only in the kitchen but also anywhere in the house or on-the-go because of its portability. Also, the Crock-Pot food warmer can be used as a lunch box wherein you can warm up your food easily after plugging its cord from a power source.
However, these Crock-Pot food warmers are slow when it comes to warming up your food compared to microwaves, but the added benefit of being compact makes buying the food warmer worth it.
For those who don’t want a blender to take up space in the kitchen table or countertop, the immersion blender is the ideal appliance for them since it can be easily stored inside a cabinet.
The immersion blender, also called the stick blender, is an excellent appliance to use for making smoothies, pureeing vegetables, or blending sauces for pasta. The kitchen appliance is also very easy to clean since you have to clean a single piece of the blender, which is the blending wand instead of disassembling and cleaning the jar, the lid, and the blades in jar-type blenders.
One downside to using an immersion blender is that you won’t be able to leave it unattended since you will have to hold the equipment. High-performance blenders have a function to keep the ingredients contained within the jar while also being able to stop once all the ingredients are blended.
Plenty of smaller and space-saving appliances are available in the market, but these are just some of the essential ones you would need in your small kitchen. If you love cooking, you would eventually need to have a bigger kitchen and high-performance appliances, but for now, these fantastic kitchen appliances are enough to nurture your cooking passion.
