Common Plumbing Problems: Tips for Fixing These Issues

Plumbing is one of the annoying systems in the house, especially when experiencing some failures. It is estimated that, on average, each household loses over 9,000 gallons of water annually. These occur because of unchecked plumbing problems and can hurt your wallet. It feels worse to turn on the shower only to realize that you’re not getting hot water.

The problem of having plumbing issues is that some will go undetected for an extended time. After they reach a breakpoint, you will be hit by huge bills. Therefore, you must not allow plumbing issues to interrupt your life. You should be prepared and prevent these problems from happening.

Here are some common plumbing problems and how you can fix them:

1. Leaking Pipes

If you are in an old house, leaking Pipes becomes part of your major plumbing problems now and then. Pipes leak, yet they are the bulk part of your plumbing.

Modern types of pipes are a manufacturer from PEX. Most old homes still have copper pipes. Copper is usually stronger than PEX, but only under normal circumstances. However, under extreme temperatures, the expansion and contraction make it break.

2. Faulty Faucets

This comes in the form of a dripping tap and is associated with insanity. You hear persistent and rhythmic tones tattooed in your head. Sometimes, you don’t have to be home to listen to them.

If you want to fix a leaking tap is easy. You can do it yourself with the right tools. Or hire a qualified plumber in your area.

Various things can cause leaking faucets. First, it’s a worn o-ring. This is a small rubber ring placed on the stem screw to hold the handle. Over time, it gets worn and needs replacement.

The other contributor could be an old cartridge. This is a mesh filter located at the spigot. Minerals deposit and clog up the aerator causing loss of water pressure. It’s, therefore, necessary to replace cartridges after a couple of years.

3. Toilet Issues

In most cases, leaks in toilets are unnoticed. With a toilet running all the time, this could enable you to lose hundreds of gallons. The leading cause of toilet plumbing issues is rubber flapper.

When repairing, you can opt to replace the flushing mechanism. If you want to test your toilet leak, you can use food coloring.

4. Weak Water Pressure

Weak water pressure could be among the most annoying plumbing problems you can experience. Low water pressure is a common issue and makes your showering less enjoyable.

Sometimes, replacing a new faucet or showerhead could solve the low-pressure problems. If not solved that way, you have to correct it at the pipe and valve levels. If there are leaks but not aware of them, that could be a red flag.

The Final Word

You are likely to experience plumbing problems from time to time. However, not all the plumbing problems you can solve by yourself. Others require experienced and skilled professionals.

If you are to hire a plumber, ensure you get the best. This will help prevent facing plumbing challenges in the future.
