At What Age Should Babies Stop Wearing Onesies?

views

You can dress your baby in onesies as long as they fit and the child is comfortable. Mostly, parents stop dressing them in these clothes when the baby starts potty training. Additionally, when to stop dressing your child in a onesie can also be determined by the manufacturers. Each manufacturer makes onesies for certain ages, with most of them making a size two as the maximum limit. Such a size is fit for children around 2 – 3 years. Ultimately, deciding to stop dressing babies in onesies depends on the parents’ choice and the baby’s comfort. On average, most babies stop wearing these clothes at around two years. That’s when parents start switching to  boys pyjamas and girls’ tops and skirts. Apart from age and the parent’s preference, here are other factors that make babies stop wearing onesies:

1. The Baby’s Age

As babies grow, their body parts also grow. Your baby might grow taller as they age, and onesies are only made for babies up to certain body size, depending on the age. With time, their bellies start being exposed, and no parent wants this, so onesies become an old tale.

2. Your Baby has Started Walking

Another indicator that you should quit dressing your baby in onesies is if they have started taking their first steps. Walking is different from sitting or crawling, and your baby needs lesser clothes for comfort when walking. Most babies will start walking from 12 to 14 months; when they do, they need to be comfortable.

3. The Weather Conditions in your Region

One of the main reasons why parents use onesies is because they keep the baby warm during cold times. This means that you should put aside these clothes during summer or warmer seasons. Since onesies are warmer, they can make your baby feel hot and uncomfortable.

4. Planning to Start Potty Training

Imagine pulling down shorts and nappies, then unbuttoning a onesie? By the time this is done, the baby might not be able to control their bowels. So, when you start potty training, you should consider foregoing onesies to avoid struggling.

5. Your Baby Doesn’t Want to Wear Onesies

At some point, babies have their opinions on what they want to wear. Your baby might not express themselves, but their behaviour will indicate they need a change of clothes. They no longer like it if they often become fussy when dressed in onesies.

6. The Parent’s Convenience

Parents prefer dressing their babies in onesies because they are more convenient than regular clothes. All you need to do is dress them in a onesie and throw in other clothes such as trousers and shorts. However, with time, some parents stop using onesies when their babies start crawling. During this stage, the clothes get easily worn out and dirty. Another issue is that as the baby ages, they start getting messier. So, if they constantly get dirty, you must keep changing the entire onesie. As a result, most parents avoid this by not dressing them in onesies.

Conclusion

All babies look cute and comfortable in onesies, but you’ll have to leave these clothes in the past at some point. Most parents don’t know when their babies should stop wearing onesies. By reading this guide, you have understood when it’s time to switch from onesies to  boys pyjamas or girls’ attires.
